Ahoy, commuters! NYC Ferry to offer more routes, more stops and system-wide redesign
"The NYC Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), the agency that runs the ferries, said the additional service is part of its Ferry Optimization Plan and marks the first time the city's ferry system has been redesigned since it launched in 2017. From Throggs Neck to the Rockaways, our city's ferries give New Yorkers and tourists alike a convenient, affordable way to travel across the five boroughs, Mayor Eric Adams said."
"Thanks to smart investments to make our ferry system more accessible, affordable, and sustainable, we've already shattered ridership records this summer, and with this comprehensive redesign, we'll embark on the next great stretch of NYC Ferry's journey to bring this dynamic service to even more New Yorkers. A one-way ticket for an NYC Ferry ride is $4.50, which come January will be $1.50 more than the new $3 subway and bus fare set to take effect that month."
NYC Ferry announced a comprehensive redesign and expansion of its ferry network under the Ferry Optimization Plan, marking the first system redesign since 2017. The plan includes expansion of the East 34th Street Ferry Terminal and new landings at East Harlem 125th Street and MADE-Bush Terminal in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. New routes and service changes will be implemented by the end of 2025, including splitting the East River into two routes and adding a local route to preserve connectivity during midday and winter weekends. Fare remains $4.50 one-way; the system is subsidized by city taxes and achieved a $8.33 per-rider subsidy this year.
