"The fascists are here. They're invading our cities, crashing our economy and stealing our futures to sell them to the first bidder,"
"municipal solutions to national problems."
One hundred fifty New York City youth gathered in Brooklyn with elected officials to push for passage of the Livable Futures package before the end of the year. The package includes five bills focused on immigration, climate change, housing and transgender rights. Participating youth-run organizations include Fridays For Future NYC and the Youth Alliance for Housing. The legislation was crafted in part to push back against policies from the Trump administration. The City Council Progressive Caucus prioritized the bills, with champions including Comptroller Brad Lander and Public Advocate Jumaane Williams. One bill easing nonprofit and tenant purchases of distressed buildings is expected to pass soon, and another faces an upcoming committee hearing.
