Jane August initiated a project to explore every museum in New York City, documenting her visits through short videos. Initially intended as a personal endeavor to reconnect with culture post-COVID, it has evolved significantly, with August now aiming to complete the project before turning 30. Since 2021, she has documented 136 museums, with a remaining 64 to visit. Her experiences have deepened her appreciation for the city's cultural offerings, especially smaller and lesser-known venues, resulting in a growing online following of approximately 40,000 across social media platforms.
"At first, I started the project for myself to safely get out of my house and experience culture in the city again," said August.
"I decided TikTok would be a cool way to document this so my friends could keep up with my journey and maybe discover something new," August said.
"Visiting its museums has sparked a new appreciation for New York City," she said, as well as for the sheer breadth of what's on offer.
"I love Poster House. It's the first poster museum in the country, has great programming and is free on Fridays," she says.
