The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating an incident where South Simcoe police officers shot at two youths, resulting in serious injuries. This incident occurred during a violent confrontation at a residence in Innisfil.
The South Simcoe Police Service stated that after responding to a violent event, there was an interaction with the youths outside a home on Shoreview Drive before officers discharged their firearms, leading to the injuries.
The youths involved in the shooting suffered serious and life-threatening injuries, with one transported to Barrie hospital and the other to a Toronto hospital, according to the SIU.
The SIU, responsible for examining police conduct in Ontario, has taken over the investigation into the officers' actions and has indicated that further comments cannot be made due to their ongoing process.
