Patriots targeting Terrell Williams as next defensive coordinator, per report
Briefly

The New England Patriots are reportedly focusing on Terrell Williams, current assistant coach for the Detroit Lions, as their next defensive coordinator. Williams, previously with the Tennessee Titans under coach Mike Vrabel, has extensive coaching experience in the NFL. He transitioned from collegiate coaching to the NFL in 2012, leading defensive lines for several teams, including the Raiders and Dolphins. After an effective tenure with the Titans, he joined the Lions in 2024. Although his unit showed mixed results, his prior coaching pedigree makes him a candidate of interest for the Patriots.
According to a report by Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, the team of head coach Mike Vrabel is 'targeting' Detroit Lions assistant Terrell Williams for the open position.
Williams, 50, went into coaching in the late 1990s. Starting out at the college level, he made the jump to the NFL in 2012 as defensive line coach for the then-Oakland Las Vegas Raiders.
After Vrabel's firing in January 2024, Williams was hired by the Lions as defensive line coach and run game coordinator. Detroit was ranked 18th in rushing touchdowns.
As of Tuesday afternoon, there have been no reports about Williams having interviewed with the Patriots for their open defensive coordinator position.
