The New England Patriots are transitioning from voluntary offseason workouts to mandatory minicamp under first-year head coach Mike Vrabel. Starting Monday, the team will engage in three days of practices with full roster attendance, unlike previous voluntary sessions. Attendance has been strong, with recent workouts seeing 84 of 90 players present. Players face fines for unexcused absences, but no contract disputes are currently anticipated. Each minicamp day includes media availabilities and is open to credentialed press, marking an increase in media interest during this critical preparation phase.
Starting on Monday, they and the rest of their healthy teammates will go through what projects as the busiest open sessions to date as far as attendance and media interest is concerned.
With no known current contract disputes, those numbers are not expected to be relevant for the Patriots and their players this year.
That change is only a theoretical one for the Patriots, however, given that they have enjoyed exemplary attendance throughout the offseason.
At least two of those six absentees - CB Carlton Davis III and LB Anfernee Jennings - have since returned to practice.
