Matt Patricia, former assistant coach for the New England Patriots, is reportedly set to become Ohio State's next defensive coordinator. After a successful period with the Patriots, where he contributed to two Super Bowl victories and served as defensive coordinator, Patricia's career included a challenging tenure as head coach of the Detroit Lions. Following a brief return to the Patriots as an offensive line coach, he spent a year with the Philadelphia Eagles before not returning for their championship run, making this new role at Ohio State a significant career development.
Patricia first joined the Patriots in 2004, and over the next few seasons climbed the organizational ladder until being named defensive coordinator in 2012.
He left for an unsuccessful stint as head coach of the Detroit Lions after helping the team win a pair of Super Bowls.
In 2021, Patricia returned to New England - first as an advisor and later as the team's offensive line coach.
Patricia has found a new coaching job as the next defensive coordinator at Ohio State.
