The San Francisco 49ers are looking to reduce salary costs and may move on from both Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. Ian Rapoport reported that after trading Samuel to the Commanders, Aiyuk could be the next to go. Due to substantial investments in offensive players and impending payments for others, such as Brock Purdy, the 49ers are contemplating trades to manage their financial situation. Aiyuk, previously a trade target for the New England Patriots, may draw interest again if he becomes available, although his value has decreased following an ACL injury and a hefty contract extension.
This is a team that, I think they'd like to get a little younger ... they got a lot of money invested in some offensive weapons, and they still need to pay some guys.
Brandon Aiyuk was heavily rumored as a trade target for New England last offseason, both during the 2024 NFL Draft and over the summer.
If they're able to unload some money for maybe the right deal, it sounds like they may do it. But that's a much harder trade to do than this [Deebo Samuel] trade.
After the 49ers traded Deebo Samuel, could they also trade Brandon Aiyuk? That would be a challenge. But they do need money to pay Brock Purdy and others.
