Would the Sharks possibly flip Kiefer Sherwood before NHL trade deadline?
"Post trade, we had a quick conversation. But we were just more focused on how excited we were to add Kiefer to the group, and I think he's going to love it here. He's excited. We're excited to have him, and we think it's a great fit. So hopefully down the road at some point, we'll be able to work something out."
"I don't believe in negotiating in the media and telling the media what's going on and what the numbers are and what the term is and what it looks like, so I'll just kind of leave it at that, Grier said."
"He's what this team needs, as far as someone who plays with some sandpaper, some grit, some speed, some physicality."
Mike Grier traded two second-round draft picks to acquire Kiefer Sherwood and is seeking a contract extension to keep Sherwood past his upcoming unrestricted free agency. Grier values Sherwood's sandpaper, grit, speed and physicality and expects him to play an important long-term role for the Sharks. Sherwood, 30, is in the final year of a two-year, $3 million deal he signed July 1, 2024, and reportedly turned down a three- or four-year, $4 million AAV offer from Vancouver. Sherwood's next contract is expected to carry at least a $5 million AAV, and initial talks with San Jose were reportedly far apart, though both sides say enthusiasm about the fit is high.
