Germany received an early penalty when Kai Wissman was called for hooking seven minutes into the match, and Slovakia took a penalty at 10:27 when Lukáš Cingel was penalized for holding. Two minutes before the first-period horn Pavol Regenda scored with assists from Erik Černák and Martin Fehervary. In the second period Juraj Slafkovský was driven into the boards by Moritz Seider with no penalty awarded. Miloš Kelemen, Oliver Okuliar and Dalibor Dvorský added goals, Samuel Hlavaj drew a tripping penalty, and Slovakia pulled away while Germany remained scoreless.
