Alex Ovechkin remains one goal shy of becoming the first NHL player to reach 900 career goals. His next opportunity comes Wednesday against the St. Louis Blues, and another comes Thursday against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Penguins captain Sidney Crosby praised Ovechkin's consistency and ability to keep finding ways to score year after year. Ovechkin has 43 career goals against Pittsburgh in 80 games. Ovechkin has struggled early this season with two goals in 12 games and a seven-point start that is the worst of his career. Crosby has begun the 2025-26 campaign in strong form.
