The Philadelphia Flyers have placed forward Ryan Johansen on unconditional waivers today for the purpose of terminating his contract due to a material breach.
Hockey insider Elliotte Friedman added on X that "Johansen is expected to grieve this termination; Flyers aren't commenting, but have made it clear they will present their case if asked to do."
If the Flyers end up successfully freeing themselves of Johansen's deal they'll recoup $8 million on their salary cap a year early.
Johansen, the older brother of Hershey Bears' two-time Calder Cup champion defenseman Lucas Johansen, tallied 13 goals and 10 assists in 63 games for the Avalanche last season.
