Reversible oven mitt, Ovechkin floss holder highlight Caps' promo schedule
Briefly

The Washington Capitals bring back their Thanksgiving Eve home game after a one-year hiatus and will give every attendee a reversible oven mitt modeled on the catching gloves used by goalkeepers Logan Thompson and Charlie Lindgren. The CapsGiving mitt complements last year's 50th anniversary gravy boat and is a highlighted item in the 2025-26 promotional calendar. Additional all-fan giveaways include a schedule magnet and rally towel for the Oct. 8 opener, themed hats, a Dylan Strome bobblehead, a hat designed by Pierre-Luc Dubois, and an Alex Ovechkin floss holder concept inspired by a 2020 Blackhawks giveaway.
After a rare hiatus last year, the Capitals' traditional Thanksgiving Eve home game returns this season, and all fans in attendance will receive a reversible oven mitt inspired by the designs of the catching gloves worn last season by Washington goalkeepers Logan Thompson and Charlie Lindgren. The CapsGiving giveaway, which will go great with last year's 50th anniversary gravy boat, is among the highlights of the team's 2025-26 promotional calendar announced Thursday.
Other all-fan giveaways for the coming season include a schedule magnet and rally towel for the opener against the Bruins on Oct. 8, an upside-down wordmark hat (Nov. 17), a trapper hat (Dec. 7), an Alex Ovechkin floss holder (Jan. 7), a Dylan Strome bobblehead (Jan. 13), a hat designed by Capitals center and vintage hat collector Pierre-Luc Dubois (Feb. 2) and a Slapshot plush hat (March 22).
(I do not understand the popularity of the upside-down hat, but I appreciate the origin story of the craze, which has a local tie. Former James Madison quarterback Ben DiNucci, who was recently released by the Atlanta Falcons, became a co-owner of the Dallas streetwear company that pioneered the look after helping it take off by introducing it to his teammates during his stint with the Cowboys.)
What this year's Capitals giveaway schedule lacks in total number of items, it makes up for in creativity. There are no images available of the Ovechkin floss holder, but imagine a bobblehead-like rendition of the Capitals' captain's head attached to a base. The floss, stored in the back of Ovechkin's head, can be strung through his tooth gap and snipped with a floss cutter attached to the base.
