NHL players are going back to the Olympics for best-on-best international hockey according to a report from TSN insider Chris Johnston. Johnston says that NHL commissioner Gary Bettman will officially announce the league's return to the 2026 Winter Games at a press conference on Friday.
The new deal between the IIHF and the NHL is expected to include the 2026 games in Italy as well as the 2030 games that are likely to be held in the French Alps. The IIHF accidentally tweeted confirmation of the news early on Friday before quickly deleting their post.
