KHL President says league plans to discuss future plans with Alex Ovechkin in the summer: 'If he decides to continue his career in the KHL, we'll be delighted'
"We're not bothering him right now, because he has an NHL contract,"
"Sasha is very focused on the game. They're currently on a break in the [regular season], and Alexander is relaxing with his family and preparing for the important part of the season. We'll certainly discuss everything with him this summer."
"We talk often, see each other in the summer, and discuss various topics. A few years ago, he asked me how things are going in the KHL. He knows everything that's going on in the league. If he decides to continue his career in the KHL, we'll be delighted."
Alex Ovechkin's contract with the Washington Capitals expires in July and he plans to play through the entire 2025-26 season before making a decision. KHL President Alexei Morozov said the league is not pressing Ovechkin while he remains under an NHL contract and that Ovechkin is focused on the current season and spending time with family during a break. Morozov said the KHL will discuss options with Ovechkin in the summer and would welcome him if he chooses to return. Ovechkin developed at Dynamo Moscow, served in an advisory role, and played there during the 2012-13 lockout. Dynamo president Viktor Voronin said he is prepared to negotiate after Ovechkin's Capitals contract ends, while Capitals GM Chris Patrick has not discussed retirement plans with him.
