"I was kind of a Caps fan ever since. I just love the colors, love the eagle, everything about it. And I even remember back in 2018 when they won the Cup, I was overjoyed. And I was super happy to see them get one."
"He's a guy we've liked for a few years. We've tried to get him a couple times from Florida."
"I was just, in shock to be honest. I really wasn't expecting it."
Justin Sourdif grew up in Surrey, British Columbia, and became a Washington Capitals fan after admiring Alex Ovechkin, receiving an Ovechkin jersey at six or seven and celebrating Washington's 2018 Stanley Cup win. Drafted by the Florida Panthers in the third round of the 2020 NHL Draft, Sourdif spent three professional seasons primarily with the AHL's Charlotte Checkers and contributed in a playoff series that eliminated the Hershey Bears. The Washington Capitals acquired Sourdif in a trade before the 2024 draft by sending future picks to Florida, giving Sourdif a clearer path to an NHL roster spot and fulfilling a childhood aspiration.
