In a historic matchup, Jessica Campbell of the Seattle Kraken and Emily Engel-Natzke of the Washington Capitals will become the first female coaches in NHL history to compete against each other. Engel-Natzke, who joined the Capitals as a full-time video coach in 2022, made history as the first woman in that role, while Campbell is notable for her position as an assistant coach on the bench. Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery commended their achievements, emphasizing their influence for future generations of women in hockey.
It's phenomenal... Em being the first coach at this level in the NHL and then Jessica being the first on-bench coach... is really impressive.
What they've been able to do in this male-dominated industry is paving the way for future women to be able to assume those roles.
