"Montreal Canadiens winger Patrik Laine will miss the next three-to-four months after having surgery to repair a core muscle, the team announced Saturday. Laine, a seven-time 20-goal scorer, has faced a challenging start in his second season with the Canadiens. He recorded one point and an assist in five games with his last appearance coming Oct. 16 in the Habs' 3-2 overtime win against the Nashville Predators. Since then, he has been out of the lineup on a day-to-day basis with what was initially designated as a lower-body injury."
"The Canadiens announced Laine's injury a week after they said that defenseman Kaiden Guhle would be out for up to six weeks with a lower-body injury. Guhle's injury left the Canadiens without one of their top-four defenseman that was fifth on the team in average ice time at 19:14. Laine's departure comes as the Canadiens are having one of the strongest starts of any team in the NHL."
Patrik Laine will miss three-to-four months after undergoing surgery to repair a core muscle. Laine is a seven-time 20-goal scorer who recorded one point (an assist) in five games this season, last appearing Oct. 16 in a 3-2 overtime win against the Nashville Predators. He had been listed day-to-day with an initially described lower-body injury before the surgery. The Canadiens announced the injury a week after defenseman Kaiden Guhle was sidelined for up to six weeks, removing a top-four defenseman who averaged 19:14 of ice time. Montreal began the season 6-3, and the expected bottom-six wingers are Josh Anderson, Zack Bolduc, Kirby Dach and Brendan Gallagher. If recovery follows the expected timeline, Laine could return in late January or be healthy by late February, which could affect his availability for Finland at the Winter Olympics. He guided Finland to a World Junior Championship in 2016.
