"We don't know whether this will be Alex Ovechkin's final season as a Washington Capital or not, but there's never a bad time to reflect back on two decades of being treated to this amazing talent. So each game day throughout the 2025-26 season, we're going to be picking an Ovechkin moment to remember against that day's opponent as we look back at an incredible career."
"10 years into his career, Alex Ovechkin had already established himself as one of the great goal-scorers in the league's history, and one of the best if not the best Russian player to ever lace up the skates. He had a couple of milestones to hit before officially taking the crown, though, and the first of those was to surpass former teammate Sergei Fedorov to become the all-time leading Russian goal-scorer."
Ten years into his career, Alex Ovechkin had established himself among the NHL's greatest goal-scorers and the foremost Russian player. On November 19, 2015, he entered a game against the Dallas Stars tied with Sergei Fedorov at 483 goals and riding a four-game goalless streak. After several near misses, he scored early in the third period to tie the game and surpass Fedorov. The goal featured a secondary assist from Nicklas Backstrom, mirroring the helper on Fedorov's record-breaking goal in 2008. Teammate Taylor Chorney noted the significance of the achievement.
