Jacob Quillan was sent down to the Toronto Marlies one day after the final roster was revealed. The Maple Leafs recalled 20-year-old prospect Easton Cowan from the Marlies on October 8 after a third successful training camp. Cowan reported feeling stronger, bigger, and faster and expressed confidence entering camp. General manager Brad Treliving indicated Cowan is close to NHL-ready but prefers he get meaningful playing time either with the Leafs or Marlies to continue development. Cowan worked late after morning skate with projected scratches Philippe Myers and Sammy Blais, and head coach Craig Berube confirmed Cowan will be a healthy scratch for the season opener.
