The Washington Capitals traded up in the third round of the 2024 NHL Draft to select Ilya Protas, the little brother of current Capitals forward Aliaksei Protas, with the 75th overall selection.
Protas, a Belorussian left wing, stood at 6-foot-4-inches, put up 51 points in 61 games for Des Moines Buccaneers, ranking as 49th by NHL Central Scouting, and led all USHL rookies in assists.
