Bogdan Trineyev has switched his jersey number from 88 to 87 after surrendering his previous number to new Capitals' player Andrew Mangiapane, who arrives via trade.
Mangiapane has a history of wearing number 88 throughout his career, having received the number during his first camp with Calgary, while Trineyev wore 88 in the KHL.
The Capitals will now host Trineyev, who aims to be the third player in franchise history to sport number 87, previously worn by rugged enforcers.
Mangiapane expressed relief that Trineyev didn’t choose to take the 87 jersey, recognizing the history of the number with its ties to prominent enforcers.
