Analysis: Jacob Quillan earns first NHL call-up with the Maple Leafs
Briefly

Jacob Quillan, a 22-year-old Nova Scotia native, has been recalled from the Toronto Marlies to the NHL. This marks his first potential appearance in the big league, which comes after his strong performances in the AHL. Coach Craig Berube emphasized that Quillan's recent play warranted the recall, especially with injuries affecting the team lineup. Quillan's versatility as a centerman and the strategic roster management likely contributed to his call-up over other candidates. This opportunity serves as recognition for his efforts at the AHL level.
He is up here because he has played really well down there. He has been a very good player of late. That is why he is up here.
With John Tavares out of the lineup... the fact that Quillan is a natural center is likely a real consideration.
It's also a nice reward for one of the Marlies' top performers of late, although even six, seven excellent performances at the tail-end of the 2023-24 regular season.
It's fair to say that his first full pro season has been a work in progress for Quillan, though.
