Alex Ovechkin scores 33rd career hat trick in Capitals' 8-4 beatdown of Canadiens: 'Right now we kind of start clicking'
""Yeah, I think right now we kind of start clicking," Ovechkin said postgame to Monumental Sports Network's Al Koken. "You can see we hold the puck in the zone, created chances for everybody. And obviously if you feel it and you have the confidence, of course you're gonna put it in.""
""Yeah, it's a great place to play hockey," Ovechkin said. "Obviously, media, fans, it's very special.""
Alex Ovechkin scored three goals — his 905th, 906th, and 907th career markers — to lead the Washington Capitals to an 8-4 victory at the Bell Centre. The first goal came one minute into the game on a power play, extending his PPG total to 327. The second goal resulted from a two-on-one with Dylan Strome, and the hat trick was an empty-net shot from 153 feet. Ovechkin finished with four points (3g, 1a), scored on all three shots, logged 15:35 of ice time, and recorded six individual shot attempts. He became the sixth-oldest player to record a hat trick and notched his fourth career hat trick against Montreal, the first at Bell Centre.
