Alex Ovechkin hosts clinic for players with developmental disabilities: 'A couple of kids (told me) congrats about the record and the 900, so that's special'
"It's a good thing that they still remember me and they still recognize me," Ovechkin said. "A couple of kids (told me) congrats about the record and the 900, so that's special."
"It's great," Ovechkin said of Wednesday's event. "We spend time with those kids. You can see parents smiling, they're smiling, they have some fun...I'm enjoying it personally; I'm enjoying it too. I'm enjoying fun with them. Play hockey, see the score goals celebration."
Alex Ovechkin hosted a clinic for the American Special Hockey Association at MedStar Capitals Iceplex, coaching participants and celebrating with them after practice. Former teammate Mike Green and current Capitals Justin Sourdif, Hendrix Lapierre, and Ethen Frank helped run stations across the rink. Several participants, including Nate Miller, congratulated Ovechkin on his 900th goal and 1,500th game. Ovechkin has served as an ASHA ambassador since 2014 and has participated in on-ice and street hockey events across eight seasons. ASHA enables people with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities to play hockey and supports about 100 clubs. Players led small-area games, encouraged skaters, and joined celebrations.
