Alex Ovechkin argues with referees to give him an assist and threatens to hit Nail Yakupov while mic'd up during 'Match of the Year'

Alex Ovechkin participated in the annual "Match of the Year" charity game between NHL and KHL Russian stars, contributing with a goal during a dominant 15-3 victory. He was mic'd up, engaging in playful interactions with teammates like Andrei Svechnikov and Evgeni Malkin. Ovechkin humorously sought recognition for an assist on Svechnikov's goal, expressing frustration over the referees’ initial decision. He also noted a physical encounter with Nail Yakupov, playfully indicating a future reckoning during a faceoff. Ovechkin's performance highlighted both his skills and his charismatic personality throughout the game.

Ovechkin starts the video trying to get props from Carolina Hurricanes winger Andrei Svechnikov for a pass that Svechnikov eventually scored on. "What a sick pass!" Ovechkin said. "Did you see that pass?" "Yeah, dope," Svechnikov responded.

Ovechkin vented his frustration to the on-ice officials and joked that he and Panarin had money on the line if they didn't get credit for helpers. "Hey, give me the assist," Ovechkin said. "I got a bonus! Credit me with the assist! Me and Panarin - give us the assists! We've got a bonus!"

After getting back to the bench, Ovechkin made sure to tell Evgeni Malkin that he had marked Yakupov's jersey number down for a future encounter. "Oh, I f-ing remember. I remember you," Ovechkin said. "You're on my list now!"
