Branch, however, ignored it and walked right past him. Instead, he walked directly toward Smith-Schuster and swung at his helmet. Smith-Schuster fell to the ground. Chiefs running back Isaiah Pacheco tried to escort Branch away, but Smith-Schuster got up and sprinted right back to him."
The Chiefs ended the game with a kneel to preserve a 30-17 win, then a postgame altercation broke out on the field. Patrick Mahomes jogged toward the melee and attempted to de-escalate by extending a handshake, which Lions safety Brian Branch ignored. Branch then approached receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and swung at his helmet, knocking Smith-Schuster to the ground. Isaiah Pacheco intervened to escort Branch away, and Smith-Schuster later returned to confront Branch before walking to the locker room with a towel over his nose. Lions coach Dan Campbell called Branch’s actions inexcusable and unacceptable.
