""We're going to see," he said, unprompted. "This is a great test time. Are more 'better' players or fewer 'highly great' players the way to ultimately win in the NFL? Because what happens is you end up so often out there without those high-paid players.""
""This was a valiant effort" Jones said. "A great coaching job today.""
The Dallas Cowboys defeated the New York Jets 37-22 while missing several Pro Bowl and recent first-round players. Owner and general manager Jerry Jones called the game a test of whether having more quality players or fewer elite players is better for long-term success and praised the coaching after the win. The Cowboys were without Pro Bowl left guard Tyler Smith (dressed but did not play with knee, ankle and hip issues), Pro Bowl receiver CeeDee Lamb (high-ankle sprain), returner KaVontae Turpin (sprained foot), left tackle Tyler Guyton (concussion) and right guard Tyler Booker (ankle). Replacements included Hakeem Adeniji, Trevor Keegan, Nate Thomas, T.J. Bass and sixth-round receiver Ryan Flournoy, who finished with six catches for 114 yards.
