Memphis is expected to hire Charles Huff as its football coach on a five-year contract. Huff is 42 and went 7-5 in his first year at Southern Miss. He spent four seasons at Marshall, finishing 10-3 and winning the Sun Belt title in 2024. He left Marshall for Southern Miss the day after that conference title; Southern Miss went winless in conference play the following season but improved to 5-3 in 2025. Memphis is replacing Ryan Silverfield, who departed for Arkansas after six straight bowl-eligible seasons. Huff has prior assistant experience under Nick Saban, James Franklin, Dan Mullen and P.J. Fleck.
