"Kirk Cousins is "highly likely" to be the Atlanta Falcons starting quarterback Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Saturday morning. Michael Penix Jr., the team's starter, suffered a bone bruise in his left knee in last week's loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Penix was limited in practice the last two days and was listed Friday as questionable for Sunday's game."
"On Friday, Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said Cousins had taken "significant" reps this week in practice and more reps later in the week rather than earlier. "I'm really confident in our backup," Morris said Friday of Cousins. "We're gonna give [Penix] every opportunity we can give him. The kid is tough. He's a guy, he's a stud." The expected start for Cousins seems fitting."
Kirk Cousins is highly likely to start for the Atlanta Falcons versus the Miami Dolphins after Michael Penix Jr. suffered a bone bruise in his left knee. Penix was limited in practice the last two days and was listed as questionable for Sunday. Falcons coach Raheem Morris said Cousins took significant reps later in the week and expressed confidence in his backup while emphasizing efforts to give Penix every opportunity to play. Cousins, 37, started strong last season but struggled after injuries and was replaced by Penix late last year. Penix is 4-5 as a starter and has a 3-3 record this season.
