""By the way, since we play the [New York] Jets [Thursday] night, how about a two-day contract?""
""Let's do it! What's the signing bonus?""
""This means a lot to me. Big-time. I'm a New England Patriot. I'm a Patriot for life. My career started here, and it 100% needed to end here, there's no doubt about that.""
Rob Gronkowski returned to Gillette Stadium to sign a ceremonial one-day contract to retire as a New England Patriot, honoring the wish of his late friend Susan Hurley. Owner Robert Kraft teased a two-day deal, prompting a playful Gronkowski response about a signing bonus. Gronkowski, 36, played for the Patriots from 2010–2018 and finished with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020–21, winning four Super Bowls total. He cited the Feb. 1, 2015 Super Bowl win over Seattle as his favorite Patriot memory and declared that his career started and needed to end in New England, calling himself a Patriot for life.
