Rodgers: Tight back hurt mobility against Jets
"PITTSBURGH -- Aaron Rodgers took four sacks in his Steelers debut, but the quarterback said Wednesday that his back was "a little tight" and limited his mobility, contributing to breakdowns in pass protection against the Jets. Rodgers didn't miss any practice leading up to Sunday's season opener, and he wasn't on the injury report. "I don't think I was moving that well, so I think I ran kind of into at least one or two sacks," Rodgers said."
"Rodgers' day didn't get off to an auspicious start when he was sacked on the Steelers' first play. Nose tackle Quinnen Williams pushed through left tackle Broderick Jones, corralled Rodgers by the waist and brought the quarterback to the ground as the pocket collapsed. "That's probably the most stressful thing on us is, and to start the game off like that," Fautanu said Wednesday. "Obviously if you start a game off like that can't get any worse. ... I felt like we did a better job going into the game as we settled in.""
Aaron Rodgers absorbed four sacks in his Steelers debut while coping with a tight back that limited his mobility and affected pocket movement. Rodgers practiced fully before the opener and was not on the injury report, but he said he wasn't moving well and must use his legs more and get the ball out quicker. He assessed protection as mostly good with fundamentals to clean up under offensive line coach Pat Meyer. The first-play sack occurred when Quinnen Williams beat left tackle Broderick Jones. Coach Mike Tomlin stressed improving protection, particularly on play passes.
