Rob Gronkowski announces that he will 'retire as a Patriot'
"I am signing a one-day contract with the Patriots this week coming up to retire as a Patriot and be a Patriot for life just like all of you out here."
"But I know Tom and I know he is still bitter the Patriots let him go for his final three seasons in the NFL, so he's secretly rooting for the Buccaneers."
"I'm not saying who I'm rooting for. I'm not really rooting for one or the other, but one team built me a statue, so the ball's in your court, Tampa. Just saying!"
Rob Gronkowski will sign a one-day contract with the New England Patriots this week to retire as a Patriot. Gronkowski spent nine seasons with New England before joining Tom Brady in Tampa Bay for two final seasons. He predicted and picked the Patriots to beat the Buccaneers, and New England prevailed 28-23. Tom Brady said he was not publicly rooting for either side and referenced the Patriots unveiling a statue and expediting his Hall of Fame induction. Gronkowski holds New England's career receiving touchdown record with 79, ranks third all-time among tight ends with 92 receiving touchdowns, has 9,286 receiving yards, 621 catches, three Patriots Super Bowl wins of his four total, four first-team All-Pro selections, five Pro Bowls, and led the NFL in touchdowns in 2011.
