Raiders vs Chargers: Geno Smith promises 'extremely hard' review after NFL defeat
"I've had similar games in the past where the ball has bounced in an unfortunate way or I haven't made the best decision on a given play or the best throw. That's a part of the game but you can never just say you can flush it - you've got to learn from it. I'm going to be super-hard on myself; extremely hard on myself, because that's all I know."
"He had a lot of time back there to look and see. He didn't like what he saw underneath and gave those guys some shots down the field, which he's tremendous at doing. I'm not supporting some of the choices, there - I need to see what happened, though. I need to see if he had other options. He'll feel more confident as he goes out again. We were impatient with the throwing game and that's why the ball went down the field so far. I don't think we needed to do that. I don't want to talk too much about the specifics of that until I see the film."
Geno Smith committed a costly early mistake and finished 24 of 43 for 180 passing yards with three interceptions and three sacks in a 20-9 home loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. Smith acknowledged past similar games and emphasized learning from the experience, saying he will be hard on himself. Coach Pete Carroll called the defeat a missed opportunity, questioned some decisions in the passing game, and said he will review film to determine available options. Carroll predicted Smith will regain confidence and return to play better in upcoming games.
