The Carolina Panthers lost 42-13 to the New England Patriots, dropping to 1-3 on the season. An 87-yard Marcus Jones punt return sparked an early Patriots lead, and a series of mistakes allowed New England to build a 42-6 advantage before a late Panthers touchdown by rookie tight end Mitchell Evans. Coach Dave Canales accepted full responsibility, calling himself the common denominator and saying he must reassess how he pushes, prepares and trains players. Owner David Tepper must decide whether to make changes to the coaching staff after the collapse.
