"He was having a fantastic game,"
"He had four tackles early on, and was really doing a good job of getting of blocks and making opportunities."
The Carolina Panthers signed defensive end Tershawn Wharton from the Kansas City Chiefs during the offseason to improve a struggling run defense and pass rush. Wharton suffered a hamstring injury in the 26-10 opening-day loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars and is expected to miss two to four weeks. He initially left the field for a concussion evaluation, then returned and injured the hamstring. The Panthers gave up 200 rushing yards and had no sacks in the game, a significant defensive shortcoming. Coach Dave Canales praised Wharton’s early play before the injury. Left tackle Ikem Ekwonu may return this week after an emergency appendectomy two weeks ago.
