"I understand the responsibility that comes with this role and how important it is to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with player leadership. This union has always played a critical role in shaping the game, and that work is as important now as it's ever been."
"We conducted a thorough, deliberate search to identify the right long-term leader to deliver sustained, meaningful progress for our members."
JC Tretter, a retired Cleveland Browns offensive lineman and former NFLPA chief strategy officer, has been elected as the union's next executive director. The selection follows a thorough search involving 300 candidates and three finalists, including interim director David White and Tim Pernetti. Tretter replaces Lloyd Howell, who resigned in July after reports of improper expense charges and undisclosed work with a private equity firm. As player president from 2020 to 2024 and chief strategy officer until July 2025, Tretter brings extensive union experience. He will address ongoing negotiations with the NFL regarding adding an 18th game and international games for each team, with the collective bargaining agreement expiring in 2030.
