New York Giants ruthlessly cut Derry native Jude McAtamney from roster following missed kicks in Broncos defeat
""I missed vital points at vital times today," McAtamney said in a post-match interview. "I'm not going to shy away from that. "I've got to make the kicks. I'll take full responsibility.""
""Hate being critical of kickers, and I love the International program, but McAtamney is not an NFL kicker.""
The Giants led 19-0 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Broncos rallied to a 33-32 victory. Kicker McAtamney missed two extra points — one in the second quarter after Cam Skattebo's touchdown that made it 13-0, and one with 37 seconds remaining after Jaxson Dart's touchdown that put the Giants up 32-30. After the second miss, Bo Nix drove Denver into position for the game-winning field goal. The Giants released McAtamney immediately. McAtamney accepted full responsibility. Former Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes criticized his NFL suitability. McAtamney can still join the practice squad as an international player.
