"Your aggressive, non-football act was entirely unwarranted, posed a serious risk of injury, and clearly violated the standards of conduct and sportsmanship expected of NFL players,"
"Your conduct reflected poorly on the NFL and has no place in our game."
Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch will miss one game after a suspension for striking Kansas City Chiefs receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster was upheld on appeal. Hearing officer Jordy Nelson, jointly appointed by the NFL and the NFL Players Association, maintained the one-game suspension without pay for unsportsmanlike conduct. NFL vice president of football operations Jon Runyan described the act as aggressive, non-football, unwarranted, and posing a serious risk of injury while violating standards of conduct and sportsmanship. Branch will miss the Lions' Monday night game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and will be eligible to return the following day.
