"I did a little childish thing,"
"But I'm tired of people doing stuff in between the play and refs don't catch it. Like, they were trying to bully me out there and I don't think - I shouldn't have did it. It was childish."
"I got blocked in the back illegally, and it was front of the ref. The ref didn't do anything, and just stuff like that. And I could have got hurt off of that, but I still shouldn't have done that."
Brian Branch struck JuJu Smith-Schuster in the face mask with an open hand immediately after the Lions' 30-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, provoking a brief scuffle. Smith-Schuster fell, then rose and engaged Branch before teammates and coaches intervened. Branch apologized, called his action childish, and said he had been blocked in the back illegally in front of a referee who did not penalize the play. Coach Dan Campbell labeled the hit inexcusable and apologized to Kansas City's staff and Smith-Schuster. Branch faces possible suspension and a fine from the NFL.
