The NCAA football rules committee has proposed penalizing teams for faking injuries by charging them a timeout or a five-yard penalty. This initiative comes amid increased scrutiny over the practice, particularly in the SEC, which has instated its own guidelines against it. The proposal aims to curb suspicious injury stoppages occurring after the ball has been set for play. While genuine injuries will still prompt necessary medical evaluations without penalties, the rules committee seeks to deter the opportunistic tactic of faking injuries for strategic advantages.
If we have a player that's struggling and the official stops the clock to get that player out, we will not invoke the timeout.
There's these plays where the ball's down, the defense is still trying to get to their side of the ball and a player falls down. Those are the types of plays that we don't want.
