Christian Gonzalez returns to Patriots practice
"Excited to be back out there," Gonzalez said on Wednesday. "I love football. This is what I do, so I mean it's been very challenging to be out for so long."
"'Hopefully we can just play 'cat' coverage - 'You've got this cat, I've got this cat.' And we can go to work," Vrabel said of the Gonzalez-Davis tandem when the latter signed in March."
Cornerback Christian Gonzalez will return to practice for the first time since sustaining a hamstring injury during training camp in July. Gonzalez has been sidelined for more than six weeks and missed the first two regular-season games. He earned second-team All-Pro honors in 2024 and entered 2025 as the projected No. 1 cornerback. New England surrendered a league-leading 630 passing yards during his absence. Gonzalez and offseason signing Carlton Davis are expected to lock down opponents' top receivers and enable the Patriots to play man coverage. The defense currently leads the league with nine sacks and could become more cohesive with Gonzalez back.
