Major college football conferences have announced kickoff times and TV networks for early-season games, revealing fewer Big Ten games on Friday nights this fall compared to last season. Only five such games are scheduled, a drop from nine in the past. This reduction is attributed to avoiding conflicts with MLB postseason broadcasts and the challenges of scheduling with more weeks in the season. Kerry Kenny, the chief operating officer, emphasized the complexity of scheduling as they adapt to shifting broadcast needs while maintaining balance in game inventories.
This fall, only five are scheduled: Iowa at Rutgers, Rutgers at Washington, Nebraska at Minnesota, Northwestern at USC and Minnesota at Oregon.
The drop in Friday night inventory in the Big Ten this fall is likely due to avoiding weeks when Fox is showing MLB postseason games.
Moving a game to Friday simply exacerbates the problem for the Big Ten's broadcast partners when arranging their Saturday lineups.
Kerry Kenny, the conference's chief operating officer, stated, 'Each season is its own puzzle to piece together when it comes to the Friday night inventory.'
