"That play is not even close. That's a catch all the way ... and nobody can convince me that that ball is not caught and in possession of Buffalo," McDermott told a pool reporter after his postgame news conference. "I just have no idea how the NFL handled it, in particular, the way that they did. I think the players and the fans deserve an explanation, you know?"
""He had a step on me and I just fought through the hands and finished the play," McMillian said. "He actually had the ball coming down, and once I had my hand on the ball I was able to take it from him. I fell on top of him and just held the ball up and showed the fans some love."
Buffalo lost to Denver 33-30 in overtime after a late play was ruled an interception. Sean McDermott replayed the play multiple times and maintained that Brandin Cooks completed the catch, saying players and fans deserve an explanation. On third-and-11 from the Buffalo 36, Josh Allen threw deep; Cooks initially came down appearing to have his knee down and to be down by contact before Broncos cornerback Ja'Quan McMillian stripped the ball. Officials ruled an interception and awarded the Broncos possession at the 20-yard line instead of a potential Buffalo field-goal opportunity. Broncos coach Sean Payton called the sequence an "amazing play."
