Maxwell Hairston was placed on injured reserve with a designation to return and will miss a minimum of the first four games of the season. He suffered a right LCL sprain during individual drills at training camp on July 29 and has not returned to practice. Hairston had been competing for the No. 2 cornerback role opposite Tre'Davious White prior to the injury. The Bills were undecided about an injured-reserve move before roster cutdowns, and his placement created opportunities for Ja'Marcus Ingram and rookie Dorian Strong. Coach Sean McDermott said recovery remains gradual as trainers assess progression. Offensive lineman Tylan Grable was also placed on injured reserve with a designation to return after entering concussion protocol.

Just from what I heard ... from [head athletic trainer Nate Breske] is really trying to still get a feel for exactly what we're dealing with in terms of when we can start to push a little bit more without affecting the healing of it. ... I get the vibe that we are moving in the right direction.
