Big 12 penalizes officiating crew over rules gaff
"We believe we have one of the best officiating programs in college football,"
"When the Conference's high standard for officiating is not met, the Big 12 will take action."
During Missouri's 42-31 win over Kansas, a Big 12 officiating crew violated NCAA rules by allowing a punt to occur on a free kick after an extra-point block. The sequence began when the Tigers were flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct following their first touchdown, Kansas blocked the extra point, and the kickoff was ruled illegal. Officials permitted the punt in violation of Rule 2 Section 16 Article 6. The Big 12 reprimanded the crew and removed it from its next scheduled assignment. Big 12 leadership affirmed confidence in the officiating program and pledged corrective action when standards are not met. The game revived the historic Border Showdown rivalry that began in 1891.
