"Countdown to Craziness"
Jayson Tatum, a six-time NBA All-Star, will serve in a volunteer advisory role as chief basketball officer for Duke basketball. Tatum is recovering from a ruptured right Achilles tendon suffered in May during the NBA playoffs. Responsibilities include in-person visits to discuss development, professionalism and team culture, mentoring athletes on career management, personal branding and time demands, periodic virtual team meetings and consultation on roster construction with coach Jon Scheyer. Tatum attended Duke's "Countdown to Craziness" preseason event and will support a program that regularly produces top NBA talent, including last year’s No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg. Tatum was a one-and-done Blue Devil in 2016-17, became the No. 3 overall draft pick and helped Boston win the 2024 championship.
