Magic Johnson to lead 137th Rose Parade
"I'm going to be waving like crazy to all the great fans,"
"The Rose Parade is watched even more than the football game. Wow, a lot of pressure."
"I'm glad my mother is still alive that she can witness this special day coming up on New Year's Day. This is a true blessing for me."
"I think I'll be kind of cool in their eyes, "They didn't watch me play basketball, but they'll be able to see my in that car.""
Magic Johnson will preside as grand marshal of the 137th Rose Parade on Jan. 1 and will ride the 5 1/2-mile Colorado Boulevard route. He will participate in the coin flip for the College Football Playoff quarterfinal at the 112th Rose Bowl later that day. The parade theme is "The Magic in Teamwork." Johnson recalled growing up poor in Lansing, Michigan, and watching New Year's Day grand marshals on television. He expressed gratitude that his mother can attend and plans to share the experience with his children and grandchildren. Johnson holds multiple sports ownership stakes and has a decorated NBA career.
