LeBron James is expected to be sidelined to begin the season while he recovers from right-side sciatica, with his condition to be reevaluated in 3–4 weeks. Luka Doncic said he does not feel compelled to take on more responsibility during James' absence and will do whatever it takes to help the team win. The Lakers are 0-2 in the preseason so far without James and Doncic. Doncic had his workload modified after playing about a month for Slovenia at EuroBasket. Coach JJ Redick said the starting lineup is unclear until James returns and that Doncic is likely to play in two of the remaining four preseason games.
