Ex-NBA ref Lewis reinstated as G League official
"Lewis cleared several benchmarks, including stress management counseling and training on responsible use of social media, to become eligible to re-join the officiating program. He is scheduled to return to action as a referee during a G League Showcase game between the Osceola Magic and Noblesville Boom at 6 p.m. EST Friday night at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando."
"Byron Spruell, NBA President of League Operations, said the league thoroughly investigated Lewis before giving him the joint agreed-upon-path to potentially return to the NBA through the G League. If all goes well, Spruell said he could be promoted to work some NBA regular-season games this season and return to as a full-time NBA referee next season. Spruell added that the National Basketball Referee's Association initially reached out to the NBA in hopes of getting the road to Lewis' return started."
Eric Lewis retired after 19 seasons as an NBA referee following a league investigation into potential violations of the social media policy. He spent the past two seasons officiating NCAA men's basketball while completing benchmarks required for reinstatement, including stress-management counseling and responsible social media training. Lewis cleared those benchmarks and was reinstated into the officiating program as a G League official, scheduled to work a G League Showcase game Friday in Orlando. NBA President of League Operations Byron Spruell said the league thoroughly investigated Lewis and agreed on a path for potential return; successful performance could lead to NBA regular-season assignments and a full-time return next season.
